333 – Abe Sapien

Next to Roger the Homonculus, Abe is probably my favorite Hellboy supporting character. I really need to catch up on all things Hellboy and BPRD related.

I’ve recently been trying to get caught up on Hellboy. I’d only ever read the first three trades, liked them, but never got back to them. On a whim I bought the next Hellboy story arch (Conqueror Worm, The Wish & The Island) digitally through the Digital Dark Horse store and enjoyed the experience quite a bit (just wish I had an iPad instead of a PC. I played around with my dad’s over Christmas, and reading comics on that thing was a DREAM). So I think I’ll be reading the rest digitally (and maybe pick up over-sized hardcovers at a latter date) But I’m wondering if I should delve in the BPRD series, since it spun out of Conquer Worm, and since certain events in current Hellboy have directly affected current events in BPRD, it might be worth reading both, to come out the other side reading BPRD ongoing.
Oh and that’s a sweet Abe. More marker work? I love what you did with the blue coloring.

  1. I feel like in the last couple years or so, there has been so much Hellboy and Hellboy spin-offs that have come out, I’m just lost as to where I’m at. I think I’ve only read the first Duncan Fegredo-drawn miniseries. I would say BPRD is worth reading, and a lot of it ties into things laid out in the first couple Hellboy series.
I own the first two HB hardcovers and a smattering of some random one-shots and minis, plus a good chunk of BPRD stuff in singles and trades. I think HB would be something I would stick to print and move mostly to digital for DC and Marvel. I am fearing that I will need to get an iPad.
And thanks! Yeah, it’s more marker work, digitally altered to be blue. The Copics are ridiculously expensive, so I’m just sticking to the cool grays for now.

    Looks great!
I’ve kept with the BPRD series but it has not been easy. I kind of hate that it’s a series of miniseries. makes it hard to remember where you are…
