September 5, 1992 – 25 years ago today – Batman: The Animated Series debuted on Fox. It’s easily in the top 5 cartoons ever produced, and sadly nothing like it will ever be allowed to air again. The maturity of the stories, writing, and voice acting – all the while being dark, yet fun, simple, yet complex, and totally suitable for kids. The pure style of the visuals, airing on a major network not just weekly, but daily. It’s part of a bygone era, and grampa here misses those days. Admittedly streaming services, on demand, etc. Takes some of that sting away, but from the production end of things, we’ll never have anything close to it ever again. Cue unwritten rant about traditional 2-D animation too, shaking my fist at passing clouds.
Also, guys, it’s been a REAL long time since I drew a Batman. Real long time.
I’m still here.
