948. Batman

September 5, 1992 – 25 years ago today – Batman: The Animated Series debuted on Fox. It’s easily in the top 5 cartoons ever produced, and sadly nothing like it will ever be allowed to air again. The maturity of the stories, writing, and voice acting – all the while being dark, yet fun, simple, yet complex, and totally suitable for kids. The pure style of the visuals, airing on a major network not just weekly, but daily. It’s part of a bygone era, and grampa here misses those days. Admittedly streaming services, on demand, etc. takes some of that sting away, but from the production end of things, we’ll never have anything close to it ever again. Cue unwritten rant about traditional 2-D animation too, shaking my fist at passing clouds.

Also, guys, it’s been a REAL long time since I drew a Batman. Real long time.

When I went on vacation last month, my mp3 player crapped out on me. So instead of dozing & listening to music during the flight, I drew my view of the plane from my seat (1st row, aisle).

To any new followers or onlookers since I started the 100 Kirbys project, or even since I started the sketchcards:

Sorry.

Theme months are over and done with for a while.

As dumb as this sketch is, it felt really good to draw something so dumb and not Kirby-related or a nerd-culture headshot portrait trading card. Don’t worry, I’ll be back to that stuff soon, but I’ll be littering in more weird stuff.

Meanwhile, a good majority of the Kirby sketches are still available. Let me know if you want one.

Funky Flashman

Galactus

Ending the 100 Kirbys with three of Jack’s greatest, deadliest villains.

I took a little artistic license with Funky Flashman. I think Kirby would have approved.

So, all the Kirby sketches are a minimum of 5 bucks.

Except Galactus. I drew him on 11 x 17 bristol board, so he’s gonna go for a minimum of 10, or best offer.

It’s the end of the month, any money I’ve raised will be going to The Hero Initiative tonight. Any remaining sketches that anyone wants, I will still gladly offer for a minimum $5, and still donate. Just ask! There are still quite a few left.
