595. The Flash

Barry. Barry is not MY Flash. Barry is a dull, weak, flat character. The original TV show version of Barry is more Wally, even the current TV version is more Wally. Barry, like Jason Todd, is a better character as a memory, a corpse, a motivation. Barry’s death gave better characters a chance to shine and be aspirational and inspirational. Bringing him back wastes decades of good storytelling and character building. And he’s still dull. Even his biggest cheerleaders had to retroactively create a dark and gritty backstory just to make him even remotely interesting. I don’t hate Barry Allen. I just don’t like him. Flash Week nearly hitting a wall, face first.

594. The Flash

Wally West, The Flash, the fastest man alive. Always Wally. After drawing it, I actually kinda like his new costume in the new Rebirth status quo. Welcome back Wally. I look forward to eventually reading a new comic with him in it. I’ll be skipping the one he’s currently in until at least an art change-up. Flash Week continues.

593. The Flash

John Fox, The Flash of the 21st, 27th (I think), and 856th Centuries. I greatly enjoyed his short storyline in the early 2000s, and it’s a shame he’s mostly been ignored. Flash Week goin’ strong.

592. Impulse

Flash week zips forward with Bart Allen, the once and future Flash, aka Impulse.

591. The Flash

Golden Age, Jay Garrick flavored. Flash Week zooms ahead.

590. Kid Flash

Spent Saturday with my pal Joe G. at a comic convention. Joe was in “sketch-aquisition” mode. He got two new Flash sketches for his Flash sketchbook (which is awesome, and contains the best sketch of the Flash that has ever been drawn). This weekend’s new additions were by Dave “Every cover ever” Johnson, and Erica “Squirrel Girl” Henderson. Ms. Henderson drew Wally West (Joe’s favorite Flash) as Kid Flash and pointed out a lack of Kid Flash throughout the book. So I decided I would also help rectify that, and draw Wally West (Joe’s favorite Flash) as Kid Flash. So here we are. Wally West as Kid Flash.

Always Wally.

I’ve also found that spending 10 hours straight with Joe rubbed off on me. So, now, the next week is Flash Week! This begins 7 days of Flash. Settle in!

589. Little Face

Dick Tracy villain.

588. Jack Staff

Still miss Jack Staff. Quite frankly, I miss any regular work by Paul Grist.

587. Max Headroom

Been watching the Max Headroom TV series (the sci-fi ABC series, not the talk shows) lately. They’re super-dated, but also, very prophetic and relevant, especially about the role of media and entertainment in our lives. There was even an episode about media controlled elections, which was a bit frightening. Plus, Amanda Pays in her prime. Damn. Jere Burns made a few appearances, Bill Maher in a ponytail showed up once, Jeffrey Tambor was a series regular, and of course, God bless Matt Frewer.

I have been a fan of his for a very long time, possibly starting with this show when I was a kid. But, I absolutely loved him in the show Doctor Doctor. I was super excited when he showed up on Orphan Black when the ex and I were watching it. I gave up on the show shortly after, but the ex kept with it and informed me that his character died like 2 episodes later. Another reason to hate the ex.

I was also incredibly excited to see him on The Knick, a show I cannot recommend enough. Then his character commits suicide in the 1st 5 minutes, depressing me and also making me envious.

Looking at his IMDB page, he pretty much only plays doctors now. Weird typecasting.
