135 – Warlock

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Fulfilling a request from Brian John Mitchell, Warlock from the New Mutants. Not a character I was ever fond of, especially now after my attempt to draw him. First of all, trying to find reference for him is ridiculous, and also this is not a character I should try to ever draw. Warlock is a character best drawn by crazy people and detail whores. Basically, folks who are better artists than me.

110 – Starfire

Starfire is the Tawny Kitaen of superheroes.

My second Teen Titan that I was inspired to draw due to my Ok, PANIC piece from two weeks ago. So, I’m pretty sure that to every pre-pubescent comic geek in the 80s, Starfire is a total representation of sex, and how frightening and awesome it is. I’m honestly surprised that whenever the exploitation, sexualization and objectification of female comic characters gets brought up, no one ever brings up Starfire, who has to easily be the most scantily clad, busty, slutty mainstream superhero comic character ever created.

What I’m saying is that this was fun to draw.

070 – J. Jonah Jameson

Monday, April 11th, 2011

No one quite rocks the Hitler ‘stache well after its fashionability like Spider-Man’s boss, J. Jonah Jameson. This was really fun to draw. I need more of my single character drawings to have some sort of narrative, even if it’s as simple as a pissed-off guy yelling at someone. Again, there’s also more brush-pen work here. I’m really digging it, but I need to learn to control it better. Thank god for Photoshop.

063 – Batman

Testing out the Pentel Pocket Brush in my sketchbook as I waited to get new tires installed. Surprised it took me this long to get a Batman sketch up during the sketch-a-day quest.
