007 – Question & Answer

So, Mike Norton is this crazy talented artist whose work deserves a higher profile. He’s worked steadily for years, and seems to be quite popular, but he’s far from an A-Lister. I admire his ability to change his style to work for whatever project he’s doing. He currently has the gig for the Young Justice comic, based on the Cartoon Network show (which are awesome, by the way – comic and show). Mike’s 24-Hour Comic contributions for the past couple years have been stellar (The Curse I & II), featuring a frentic, loose-but-detailed style that seems inherent with a 24-Hour comic, and a disturbed sense of humor that is right up my alley. Mike also co-hosts the Crankcast, a podcast that greatly influenced my decision to start my own in the first place, and the style we would adopt.

But for all that, what I am most excited to see is Mike’s creator-owned book that he’s talked about for years on the Crankcast, and over the past year has made some headway into getting it done. The pages Mike has posted of The Answer combine all the best elements of his previous works and really lets his talents and skill shine. I don’t know a thing about the story of The Answer, but the art alone should make Mike a comic-art Superstar.

I should mention, at this point, that I am not in any way shape or form affiliated with a Mike Norton. Just a fan.

Anyhoo, I wanted to draw The Answer. I love the simple, but brilliant design and look of the character. It’s like a combo of Madman and Grendel. I threw in DC Comics’ The Question because c’mon! I also like The Question.

Okay, I’m done.

006 – Feetsball

It’s the Super Bowl. I don’t like football. The end.

005 – Sketch Woman

Just a doodle while watchin’ a movie.

004 – Blue Beetle

So yeah. Expect to see this guy pop up a few more times.

Anyhoo, completely unknown to me at the time I started doing this, my friend and colleague Pat Kain had already been doing this for almost two weeks! I’m sad to admit that I had no idea he was doing a daily drawing blog, but now that I do, I feel like I have a brother-in-arms in this task, whether he wants it or not.

003 – Black Panther and Wildcat

Black Panther is the very first drawing posted on this blog (back when it was at blogspot). I figured it fitting to have a new B.P. sketch early on in this experiment. Added in Wildcat for kicks.

002 – Groundhog Day

Happy Groundhog Day.

001 – Golden Age Brave and the Bold

And awaaaaaaay we go!

With modern DC continuity, The Golden Age Flash and Green Lantern have sorta become the Superman/Batman of the G.A. I wanted to tackle a redesign of these two. Completely inspired by Tony Harris’ JSA: Liberty Files series, with a bit of Lee Bermejo for flavor.

I’ve also been trying to experiment with zip-a-tone patterns in Photoshop, so here’s the color version with zip.

And here’s the black and white version.

Day One, in the books! Starting off strong, it’s all downhill from here!

Ok, PANIC!: Golden Age Heroes

I love the Justice Society, and I wanted to play around with their costume designs, particularly Green Lantern. His original costume is so… anti-Green Lantern.

Sketch-a-Day

So, over the summer I got super busy and had a nervous breakdown. I promised that I’d start updating the blog with new art in 2011 on a more regular basis. I’m announcing for everyone now that I have ensured my next nervous breakdown:

I will be posting a new sketch/drawing every day of this year.

Starting on February 1st, 2011, I will post a sketch or drawing for (what I intend) the next 365 days.

I have a list of requests I still need to get through, plus all the stuff I’ve been working on in secret for the past six months or so, and I’m also still taking new requests to cut down on the thought I need to put into this project.

I have set up some ground rules for myself:

    1) I will spend a minimum of 10 minutes on any sketch or drawing posted.
    2) There will at least one color piece a week.
    3) Do it!

So, if you have any requests, or need to remind me of unfulfilled requests, please post ’em here!

Covered: X-Force #1

I did another Covered recreation. My thinking for this was “Anti-Rob Liefeld”.
